FPV Drone Center Established at Van 6th Border Brigade Command
KMA Defence has successfully completed the establishment of a fully equipped FPV Drone Center at the Van 6th Border Brigade Command. Set up for one of the most critical security frontlines on Turkey's eastern border, the center aims to equip unit personnel with a self-sufficient capacity in production, operations, and sustainment of unmanned aerial systems — which have become an indispensable component of the modern battlefield.
A Strategic Investment on the Border
The Van 6th Border Brigade is one of the cornerstones of Turkey's border security architecture, both in terms of its geographic position and the criticality of its mission. Factors such as mountainous terrain, harsh climatic conditions, and a vast area of responsibility highlight an operational reality where traditional reconnaissance and surveillance methods fall short. FPV drone systems, in this context, fill a critical operational gap — delivering rapid response, wide-area surveillance, target identification, and asymmetric threat neutralization. The center established by KMA Defence is a strategic investment that integrates this capability directly into the unit.
Drone Production Workshop: An Independent Capability
At the heart of the center lies the FPV Drone Production Workshop, providing unit personnel with a production infrastructure capable of meeting operational needs without external dependency. The workshop is equipped with technical stations covering every production stage — frame assembly, electronic integration, propulsion system configuration, video transmission systems, and flight controller programming. Personnel can build a field-ready FPV platform from a standard component set in minimal time. This capacity is particularly vital in border regions where logistical chains are fragile, enabling the rapid production of required drone quantities directly in the field.
Maintenance and Repair Capability: Sustained Effectiveness
In modern warfare, drone attrition is inevitable; operational effectiveness therefore depends not only on production capacity but equally on rapid maintenance and repair capability. The maintenance station integrated into the center provides a fully equipped infrastructure for the quick replacement or repair of critical components such as motors, ESCs, receiver-transmitter systems, and propellers. Personnel are equipped with both the technical proficiency and the tools to return a damaged platform to airworthy condition in the shortest possible time — ensuring continuity of the drone fleet, especially during active operations.
Simulation Systems: Real Proficiency in a Risk-Free Environment
The FPV drone simulators integrated into the center represent the most critical and lowest-risk phase of piloting training. Simulation environments that precisely replicate real flight conditions offer a safe platform on which personnel can develop a broad skill set — from basic maneuvers to advanced mission profiles — without any hardware loss. Simulator modules also include mission scenarios tailored to Van's unique operational geography, such as mountainous terrain flight, low-altitude approach, night operation profiles, and immediate target lock scenarios.
Indoor and Outdoor Flight Tracks
Following simulator training, personnel consolidate real flight experience on indoor and outdoor flight tracks. The indoor track develops precision maneuvering skills such as narrow passage control, rapid directional change, and obstacle navigation, while the outdoor track covers wide-area reconnaissance, long-range flight, and real-time target tracking scenarios oriented toward border operations. This two-phase structure ensures a gradual and safe transition from simulation to real-world operations.
The Asymmetric Warfare Dimension
Given the nature of the mission entrusted to the Van 6th Border Brigade, the FPV drone center carries a significance that extends far beyond a purely technical infrastructure. Asymmetric threats, infiltration attempts, organized smuggling networks, and terrorist activity present an operational picture in this region that demands rapid, flexible response capability well beyond the reach of conventional surveillance systems. FPV drone systems provide the most fitting answer to this picture — delivering immediate reconnaissance and surveillance, tracking of suspicious vehicles and individuals, cross-border threat detection, and precision intervention support. The center gives this capability a permanent and sustainable structure.
Committed on Every Frontline
At KMA Defence, we are firmly committed to advancing the technological superiority and personnel readiness of the Turkish Armed Forces — on every border, in every geographic condition, and across every operational environment. The FPV Drone Center we have delivered to the Van 6th Border Brigade is a concrete expression of that commitment.
